Oakland University English Department's 2016 Annual Flash Fiction Contest

Enter the contest as an undergraduate student, faculty, staff member, graduate student, or alum. 
You may submit up to three pieces of flash fiction. (stories between 250-1000 words)

Entry deadline: March 1, 2016

PRIZES:

Undergraduate Awards
                     1st place: $200
                     2nd place: $100
                     3rd place: $50

Open Contest Awards
               Three additional prizes of $50 each will be awarded to O.U. faculty, staff members,
                           graduate students, and alumni winners of the Open Contest.

SHORT STORY CONTEST #27 @ On The Premises
Next Deadline: March 4, 2016

The Contest Topic: CHANGES
One or more character(s) have to deal with some kind of significant change. It can be any kind of change you like, and on any scale, from a change affecting only one person (or one place, or one thing) to something affecting everyone/everything everywhere, or anything between those extremes. 
The challenge: Write a creative, compelling, well-crafted story between 1,000 and 5,000 words long that clearly uses the contest premise.

Reading fee: $0. One entry per author.
Winners will be notified. Non-winning stories that reach the final round of judging are critiqued for free if the author is interested. However, any contest entry can be critiqued for $15.

Prizes:
  • 1st Place wins $220 and publication.
  • 2nd Place wins $160 and publication.
  • 3rd Place wins $120 and publication.
  • Honorable Mention wins $60 and publication.

SHORT STORY AWARD for NEW WRITERS
                                Glimmer Train Press, Inc.
Next Deadline: May 31, 2015
  • Any length up to 12,000 words (most common length is 1500 - 6000 words)
  • Entries must NOT have been published in any print publication.
Reading fee: $15 per story. Maximum of three entries per competition.

Winners will be announced in the August 1 and contacted one week earlier.

Prizes:
  • 1st Place wins $1500, publication in Glimmer Train Stories, and 20 copies.
  • 2nd Place wins $500 (or $700 and 10 copies, if accepted for publication).
  • 3rd Place wins $300 (or $700 and 10 copies, if accepted for publication).
* FYI - there's always a one-week grace period.
